Part of the touch on my chest slid up to cup my jaw. It was— warm. Gentle? It was weird and unexpected and I scooted away until my lower back hit the couch’s armrest, which obviously did nothing. `My beautiful SecUnit,' ART said, and my breath hitched oddly. Rogue SecUnit maintenance is untread territory. It is much easier to keep a SecUnit functional when it has access to the infrastructure it was built to use. Without access, you must provide your own infrastructure to it.
“You didn't have to do that. I didn't ask for an update,” it grouses.
You're uncertain what it will take for your SecUnit to realize its need for this infrastructure.
In which ART is just trying to take care of Murderbot, and Murderbot is just trying not to overreact (read: panic, have a flashback, dissociate). And they get mad at each other instead of talking about it. That’s the whole fic.
