Summary
He finds his eyes drifting over to Tenko again when they reach a door, watching the way Tenko rushes ahead of the group to open it for Kaede. (She also, albeit seeming somewhat reluctant about it, stays in place to hold the door for everyone else as well before hurrying back to Kaede’s side afterwards.)
She seems incredibly dedicated. Not just to her task, but to Kaede specifically. When they reach Kaede’s chambers, Tenko gathers all of Kaede’s belongings and slips inside to put them down before quickly reemerging, only relaxing again once Kaede is back in her sights. Shuichi almost worries that she might be overdoing it a little, but every glance he takes over at Kaede after Tenko has moved shows him that Kaede is smiling warmly, her eyes bright with affection as she looks over at her knight.
Kaede was definitely being dodgy over the letters, because Shuichi is certain she hadn’t implied anything even remotely close to this when she was writing about Tenko.

Summary
Still the same as yesterday, how bittersweet. There were no crimes reported overnight, it’s been rather slow since…that happened. The outlaw section wouldn’t been wiped clean because of the two newer members. One was always so eager to take on outlaws while the other was rather hesitant to face the stronger ones. Nevertheless, the two brought them to Mangezone and received high praise every time.
It's been such a long time since Chatot met new Guild members so eager to take on challenges. They even kept their enthusiasm on tedious tasks, such as sentry duty or cleaning up the mess hall after dinner. They did it with zero complaints— after a week of adapting to Guild customs.

Summary
Kaito isn’t angry at him. Shuichi knows this, because Kaito has always been terrible at hiding upset feelings. When something is wrong he tends to avoid eye contact, avoid speaking entirely, dodging common spaces and making excuses every time you try to communicate. Shuichi has been on the receiving end of that anger before, which is why he knows that Kaito doesn’t feel even a little bit like that this time. After Maki was incapacitated, Kaito strolled over and helped Shuichi off the floor, one arm slinging over his shoulders while the other ruffled his hair. He even asked if Shuichi was okay.
Shuichi grits his teeth and ends up taking the head off the training dummy he’s sparring with. Okay. Of course he’s okay—he’s alive, Kaito is alive, neither of them even got hurt. But Shuichi failed. His first real run-in with an actual threat to Kaito’s life, and he completely fumbled it. Kaito had to protect himself. He should never have to do that, not as long as Shuichi is there.

Shuichi is left guilt-stricken after failing to keep Prince Kaito safe from an assassination attempt. He trains extra hard to compensate... Perhaps too hard.

Summary
It gets easier to walk as they get closer to the tide, the wet sand packed together and firm beneath Shuichi’s feet. This newfound convenience has the added risk of stepping into these little puddles of seawater, but Shuichi is wearing sandals and swim trunks, so ultimately it isn’t a huge issue. He looks up at Kaito, opening his mouth to ask if he plans on swimming in his shorts, then stops with a squawk when he feels a spray of water hit his calf.
Kaito’s head whips around. “Shuichi! What’s the matter?”
“S-Something sprayed me,” Shuichi stammers. He’s more startled than scared, really, but he still accepts the protective arm Kaito curls around his shoulders, at least until Kaito blinks and starts laughing.
“Oh! You gotta watch your step around here, man. C’mon, take a look.” Kaito squeezes Shuichi’s arm before dropping into a crouch, leaning over the spot where Shuichi had just stepped.

Kaito invites Shuichi, Maki, and Kaede to the beach. Shuichi expects a day of horsing around in the waves, but Kaito is much more interested in the beach itself than the water.

No umbrella; Shuichi doesn't even need to check. He thought he'd be leaving school earlier, so he didn't pack one. Now, all he can do is stare forlornly out into the courtyard, watching better-prepared students walk home. Across the way, near the fine arts building, Kaede and Rantaro stroll through the rain under a shared umbrella, chatting with smiles on their faces.
This entire situation is Shuichi's fault, but he feels a bit of longing, watching them. If only he had a friend who'd—
"Hey, sidekick!" a voice booms, and Shuichi feels a slap on his back so firm it almost knocks him out into the rain.
