Summary
It’s 1870, September, and John Watson has earned a scholarship place at a boarding school just outside of London. He has just a few months to get his education up to the standard he needs to pass the matriculation exams for medical school. As luck would have it, he’s paired with a boy called Holmes who is just as lonely as he is.
Together, they negotiate a harsh school life, solve a spate of petty thefts and, in so doing, uncover a much bigger crime involving extortion, embezzlement and blackmail.

Aziraphale's acquaintances in the book trade keep misconstruing his customary affability into expressions of affection, leading to much awkwardness.
Crowley proposes a solution.

"Acting the—oh, never mind. Look, I'm over here all the time anyway, and having it known you're already taken will stop the nuisances. Half the trade is gay, so they won't mention it. For my part, I get to foment petty jealousy, so it's all to the bad. Why not?'
Aziraphale felt sure there was a good reason why not, but Crowley had pushed his sunglasses back to show earnest golden eyes, and right now the angel couldn't think of one. After all, the Arrangement had been ill-advised from the beginning, and that had worked out all right.
"I suppose we could try," he said cautiously.
