Noelle feels the desperate need to keep Kris close right now— like if she looks away they're going to morph into the figure from her dream, sharp angles and dark eyes and commanding presence and all. It feels like they're going to disappear on her. So she blurts out, "Stay over tonight? Like— like when we were kids?"
Or: Noelle can't sleep. Kris is desperate to contain the damage to come. It ends in a sleepover.
