Summary
After everything, the girls talk. It's messy (there's crying and anger and fear and love), and it ends with a promise: No more lies. It's only afterwards that Rumi thinks of her visit to Celine, and she very promptly decides NOT to share that particular experience with Mira and Zoey, content to let that little snippet of time die quietly in her memories alone (and really, what harm can one more lie be?). Jen let out an exasperated breath. "She hasn’t died, Rio. But you might soon, if you don’t get your shit together and stop sulking."
"Here, look," Rio shoved her phone in Jen’s face. "She texted me this half an hour ago." She bit at her fingernail, looking genuinely worried. "Do you think she’s trying to ask me to come take care of her?"
Jen squinted at the screen, reading the message: 'i cant find tortilla chips whered u hide them? xoxo'
She felt herself age several years in that very moment. Slowly, she looked back up at Rio. "Your desperation is ruining my appetite. I’m finishing this bagel in my office."
