“You….are making it very hard to be good at this,” Steve mumbles, peeking over the tips of his fingers and doing what on any other person would be called a pout.
“Be good at what?” Tony asks with a low laugh, still taken in by the sight of him.
“Dating,” Steve replies forcefully, his eyes rolling upwards in a plea for strength as he lowers his hands to drink some water and relieve the heat in his face. “I’m not-you’re so-ugh. Could you go easy on me? I’m still trying to get used to all of you.”
“All of me?” Tony laughs louder. “What is that supposed to mean?”
It's Friday, and that means Peter gets to sleep over Uncle Rhodey's house, and-more importantly-Daddy has a playdate with Mr. Rogers! Tony likes to think it's going pretty well, but he's also two seconds away from full-on making out with Steve in public, so take that as you will.

Summary
Tony is seven years old when he sees the ballet for the first time and meets his future pas de deux partner.
His father is invited to sweet-talk politicians into a new weapons deal and explain his latest idea for their program, and his mom goes to catch up with old friends she hasn't seen in years, but Tony goes because his mom had smiled down at him and told him he would love it.
His mom's never wrong.

In which boy genius Tony Stark meets girl wonder Natasha Romanoff at the ballet, and they fit their broken little pieces together to make something beautiful on the dance floor.
Steve? He's just a dumb, awful, chaotic, extremely supportive older brother that really should just shut up and admit he likes Tony a lot more than he pretends, because Natasha only has five people in the world she likes; it only makes sense her two favorites would fall in love with one another.
They always were a little slow, though.

Summary
There's no end to all the crazy, wack things you get used to seeing when you work as an Avenger, but even Iron Man himself is surprised when a magic portal opens in his workshop and dumps versions of him and Steve from another universe into his lap. Evil twins, violent dictators, little kids, females, civilians-you'd think they'd seen just about every kind of version of them in the multiverse, right?
Yeah, Tony's pretty sure angels and demons take the cake. Angels and demons who fought wars together and are apparently soulmates, the same way angel Steve is telling him this Earth's Steve and Tony-meaning himself and the regular super soldier war veteran standing two feet away-are soulmates too.
He really can't make this shit up, hand to God.

Tony's known since the day he put the arc reactor in his chest that it wasn't perfect-that something, someday, would happen to it outside of his control, whether it be as Tony Stark or Iron Man. He thinks numbers, events, outcomes, makes backup plans up to his ears for all the worst nightmares that haunt him, but even he knows that sometimes-
-sometimes, his best isn't enough, and the blue light flickering in his chest is proof of it.
But I have a date tonight, Tony thinks as Loki slaps something shiny and awful on his chest, red flushing over his HUD.
Steve is going to be so upset.

Summary
So maybe Tony is really cute, and maybe Steve has a crush on him, and MAYBE he doesn't know how to stop panicking every time Tony looks at him and does stupid things like ignore him or yell at him, but the positive is that at least Tony will never know.
The rocks? Steve always panics-yells at Tony, or ignores him-because he can't handle having a crush when Tony has such big brown eyes and soft round cheeks, so Tony will never know.
Being five is hard.
