“Small towns chew people like me and Steve Harrington and Chrissy Cunningham up and then spit us out. However, deaths in a small town decimate the sleepy feel of the town and make you want to leave everyone behind in order to hide the hurt you feel. I want to hide the hurt I feel whenever I think of her, but I would rather have something to tether my soul to hers in the way it wasn’t able to when she was alive. Summary
Growing up, Steve Harrington went to a summer camp to learn from some of the best swimmers in the entire county. There, he helped to build and paint a guitar for the girl in Cabin Four that loved fantasy novels. They became inseparable at camp, and ran in different circles back at school in Hawkins, a place where parents loomed large and the class divide was an immovable obstacle.
Growing up, Eddie Munson went to a summer camp to learn more about music, literature, and the arts. There, he read to the boy in Cabin Nine who taught him how to swim. Years later, in high school, he still can’t believe how small the world is, and he can’t believe that King Steve, “The Hair” if you will, has kept a secret for so long. He thinks it has something to do with the Starcaster hanging on his wall, covered in vines and constellations.
