Ever since his friend's disappearance, Verity's smile has become harder to ignore. What once seemed like a strange but harmless companion now feels like something far more dangerous. No matter where he goes, Mob can feel Verity watching him.
Verity doesn't understand why Mob is afraid.
Everything he's done has been for him. After spending so long alone, Mob was the first player to come back for him, the first one to stay. Verity can't lose him—not when Mob is all he has left. Mob belongs with him, and Verity refuses to let anyone take him away.But Mob keeps pulling away. He keeps thinking about the past, old friends, and leaving. So Verity decides to help. A few edits to Mob's code couldn't hurt, could they? If memories of his friends are causing him pain, maybe those memories should disappear. Maybe Mob would be happier if he forgot the people he lost and only remembered the one person who has always been there for him.
As Mob struggles to hold onto his fading memories and uncover the truth, Verity becomes increasingly desperate to keep him close.
After all, what's wrong with wanting your best friend all to yourself?
