Summary
It has been six months since Mo Ran has seen Chu Wanning. It has been on purpose. Once Chu Wanning had been promoted upwards in both position and office floor, Mo Ran made sure to give wide berth to the cold and unfeeling man who’s butted heads with him since he started at Sisheng.
This changes one night, when a friend puts forth a wager.
“Not him.”
“Hm?” Mei Hanxue peers over, and his eyes go wide before an absolutely shit-eating smile crosses his face. He doesn’t even bother with an over-saccharine “Why not?” because he can already see Mo Ran’s hackles start to rise.
“No,” Mo Ran warns before Mei Hanxue can open his mouth, and Mei Hanxue gives him a positively feline look. “Do you want me to die?”
“For him, I’ll double what I said I’d give you,” Mei Hanxue says and Mo Ran raises an eyebrow. “What? If he says yes, it’d be one of mankind’s greatest accomplishments. Statues would be made in your honour.”

Chu Wanning is just passing through the main courtyard when a group of female junior disciples approaches from the opposite way, huddled close together under two umbrellas, talking in animated voices that carry across the space.
“Have you seen him?” the tallest of them says. She is one of Xuanji’s disciples, but Chu Wanning cannot recall her name. “Da-shixiong says he’d been away for a while, but now he’s back for good.”
Five years after the opening of the Heavenly Rift, Mo Ran returns to Sisheng Peak. Soon later, Chu Wanning begins to be plagued by strange dreams.

The man tosses the towel unceremoniously back at Mo Ran’s chest, like he’s personally offended by it. And the fact that his hands had just been all over said chest barely minutes earlier, maybe.
“Please pack a box of egg tarts with extra custard filling, a box of red bean paste buns with extra syrup, a rice pudding with extra candied fruit garnish, and a box of osmanthus cakes with extra sweet pear jam.”
Mo Ran’s eyes grow progressively wider as he lists the items.
It’s him.
