”Dang. So a miracle.”
“Exactly.”
“Hence, Mila, from milagro.”
Athena coos at the baby in her arms, eliciting a happy gurgle from Mila. It’s a scene that he can’t bear to tear his eyes from, though he remains standing by the wall, uncertain.
His wife doesn’t have his reservations, though, tickling Mila’s belly, making the baby squeal. “Oh, someone takes after their Pops. You love the attention, don’t you? Hmm? What do you say?”
“I don’t know, Athena,” Bobby finds himself saying as there’s a lull in conversation, likely spurred on by the amazing, light, tinkling sound of Mila’s happiness. “She’s been pretty calm the whole time we’ve been here. Feels more like an Eddie thing.”
“Maybe you’re right. She definitely doesn’t bite, that’s for sure.”
The look she levels at him makes him guilty and vulnerable in equal measure, and he finds himself approaching the two, still apprehensive, as the conversation in the kitchen starts up again.
