Summary
Kill the dragon enough times, and you were given the keys to the kingdom. Dream didn't know why, nor did he have any concrete reason to believe it was cause and effect, but neither was there reason to believe it wasn't. He'd freed the End in multiple iterations of their world, across numerous hunts, regardless of how high the stakes had been raised… and now he was becoming a god. Stranger things had happened.
Well, maybe not. But it wasn’t as though he had any choice but to accept it by now.

Summary
Sometimes George stares at the distant obsidian monolith that is Pandora's Vault and wonders why he hasn't yet gone to visit. Neither while dreaming nor awake has he set foot inside its doors, and if asked for an explanation, he doesn't think he would be able to give one. At his core, tucked away deep behind the overgrowth of apathy, there might be something resembling fear of what awaits inside.
But George isn’t afraid of Dream. He’s merely afraid of what he might feel upon seeing him.

Summary
George thinks it's almost like there's a force field keeping them apart. They're two magnets with the same polarity.
He doesn't mind. He doesn't think he minds, anyway. It's enough to be around Dream, much though George sometimes feels like a planet caught in Dream's orbit, helpless but to follow the motion of the sun. That's not so bad, though. And the planets never get too close to the star they're orbiting, after all.
But he does wonder if it's intentional.

Summary
George wakes up.
In the cool shade of the spruce trees, the warm memory of a pleasant dream lingers at the edges of his consciousness. George, unwilling to let it go, reaches blindly for it—tries to cup the light and hold it, but it slips easily through his hands, water pouring through the cracks between his fingers.
He cannot hear it, but the wind brushes a warning through his hair, pressing it cold and certain to his skin like a brand. He doesn’t know it yet, but the end has already begun.

Summary
It’s a new thing, being aware. Being able to notice the difference. Suppose it comes with his promise of truthfulness, sharp contrast to that vow he made an eternity ago. Dream’s mask, open and empty; fingers twisted into unspoken, unanswered questions.
But that’s the paradox of it, isn’t it? And so the liar says, “I always tell the truth.”
