There was a slight rustling on the other end of the line and hushed voices, slowly disappearing with the sound of repeated footsteps coming from what he assumed was the person on the other end of the line. “My name is Techno, I’m a social worker for the state of Washington and I’ve been assigned your son for the past three years.”
Wilbur blinked slowly, letting the words set in one by one. “My- I’m sorry, I think you have the wrong person, I don’t have a son,” he chuckled breathlessly, focusing back on his dinner, now waiting in the beeping microwave.
“We’ve ran two DNA tests on both your son and the mother, and you’re listed on his birth certificate as the father,” Techno explained, footsteps slowly coming to a halt. “Did you not know about him?”
Or; Wilbur has lived the past nine years of his life unbeknownst to the kid sharing his last name.

'I missed you so goddamn much,' Wilbur mumbled into his hair. He could feel Tommy’s trembling giggle against his chest.
The kid looked up from where he had buried his face into his sweater. 'It’s only been a couple of months.'
Wilbur smiled and used his thumb to wipe the kid's eyes. 'A couple of months too long,' he teased, ruffling his hair and earning himself an indignant squawk and a smack to his hand."
