Still. There's no respite.
The burning lash under his ribs, his arm a white-hot ache, a scream unsounded in the back of his throat—it unspools, infinite. He clings to the sharpness in his left hand. A single point of clarity he'd snarled at Pete for trying to take away. Pete's brows had furrowed but he'd retreated, palms up.
