The older man’s smile deepens. “Oh, I know him very well. You may not believe it, but I was even his favorite, once.”
Wei Ying snorts. “Impossible! Shushu’s only ever had one favorite, and that’s me!”
“Perhaps,” the handsome man says, “but how old do you think I am?”
Wei Ying squints again. Looking closer, he’s now noticing the faint hint of crow’s feet around the man’s eyes when he smiles.
“I must be older than you by a good decade or two,” the man hums. “So, it is not too impossible that I could have grown up under your Lan-shushu’s care, too.”

Like Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian wears his gem on a bracelet on his wrist. It's mostly covered by his sleeve but Lan Wangji can see a bit of it peeking out, enough to know that it doesn't change color in his presence.
Wei Wuxian doesn't feel any strong emotion toward him.
OR WangXian Mood Ring (mood bracelet?) AU where all cultivators traditionally wear gems that change color in response to surges of the cultivator's qi but they're also known to react to strong emotions.

Wei Ying: What am I supposed to say to him?? "Lan Zhan I know you barely tolerate me but I'm actually crazy in love with you and I really just want to marry you and raise little Lan babies with you" There’s no fucking way he’d go for it!
OR Wei Ying is down bad for Lan Zhan and accidentally texts the wrong person about it
