Summary
It all began with a strange feeling.
It wasn’t something intense, but enough for Shane to notice something was off. His eyes were moving faster than his brain, and Pike’s face looked…weird. Like, he could see it, but it was a little too soft around the edges.
“You good, dude?”
Shane snapped out of his thoughts. They were in the locker room, and while it had previously been filled with loud chatter and booming pregame music, he suddenly found that it was silent, besides a weird, distant buzzing in his ears. Hayden Pike was locking eyes with him, awaiting a response. Shane swallowed. Guess he had to say something now.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“Huh? Oh, uh, hm.” Shane just hums. “I’m good. Zoned out for a sec.” He says plainly, because it wasn’t untrue.

Summary
Shane Hollander had just royally fucked up. He couldn't feel his feet. He couldn't feel the weight of his stick. He stood frozen while he watched Boston celebrate their win. A win that could have been easily avoided if he had not tripped on the ice during probably the most crucial moment of the third period.
-
Or: Shane has a shit game against Boston, falls into a self-destructive spiral, and cancels on Ilya, who doesn't like being bailed on. He proceeds to catch Shane in the midst of an episode.

Summary
The diet helps. Shane has always been particular about food—apparently there was a lengthy phase in his childhood where all he ever wanted for breakfast was plain Cheerios with a glass of 1% milk, and would cry ceaselessly when it was something different—but now it feels justified. Necessary, even. His parents are on board with it, too, which is nice. (Well, his mom moreso than his dad, because he doesn't get it and keeps telling Shane shit like just give yourself a treat, which is stupid because the treat is when he wins a game because of how hard he's working. But his mom understands, knows what to order for Shane at restaurants, what to keep stocked when he visits home so there are no temptations.)
A lot of the stuff he's eating now is really gross, actually, but that makes it even better, somehow. If he enjoyed it then it would be too easy. This way he knows he's actually sacrificing something for the success he wants so badly.
He likes the control, over what he eats and how he works out. Likes to know that the tool of his body is being properly handled, so that if something goes wrong, on the ice, he has nobody to blame but himself.
