“Luke.” Michael’s voice comes out firm as he grabs Luke’s wet, trembling face in both hands. He can't even process half of what Luke is saying. Right now the only thing that matters is getting him to calm down, because watching him like this feels like it is splitting Michael’s chest open. “I’m right here.”
“You’re not,” Luke whispers. “You never were.”
“What the hell are you talking about, Luke? I’ve always been here. I liteally live across-”
“You were never my friend.” The words come out barely above a breath. “So why are you trying to be one now?”
or: at 8 years old, michael moves in across from luke. since then luke longs for something that never existed.
