Something foul exploded in his gut like a warning scream and he yelled out “Get down!” without questioning it.

P’Kim hit the ground with him buried underneath, pressing him into the tiles and the air out of his lungs. With wide eyes, he watched the burning knives flying through the air above them, cutting nothing but air before fizzling out.
He didn’t even have time to take a breath, when something clamped down on his ankle and ripped him away from underneath his boyfriend, making him scream in fear.

His Hia had always been a lot more than meets the eye and had taught Porchay all about the wonderful, magical little things he could do. When the Theerapanyakun tower is invaded by something a little less human than all those trained bodyguards can handle, Porchay may have no other choice than use those things to keep himself and the people with him safe.

He clears his throat. “I thought…” he begins slowly, careful, toes over the cliff edge. “That it would be… more comfortable for you, if I… didn’t touch you.”
Chay looks at him. Kim is too much of a coward to look back.
“Well,” Chay starts, voice controlled, and it’s then that Kim wonders if Chay feels just the same as him, guarded and endlessly careful, terrified of making one wrong move. “Maybe… you should ask me, instead of just… thinking things.”
Shallow breaths, in, out. Fingernails scratching against the material of the sofa, clenching into fists. Throat dry, knees weak at the edge of a precipice.
“Do you… want me to move closer?”
No – no, no, no, that’s not it. He’s supposed to ask if it would be more comfortable for Chay for him to move away – or if Chay wants him to – to sit on the floor, or something – he isn’t supposed to phrase it like that, like a request, like all of Kim’s wants displayed between them, cowering from the light, used to only darkness as they are –
“Yes,” says Chay, and pulls him closer.
Or, kim and chay find their way back together after the dust settles
