As Alessan and his company gather, at the last, atop the hill where their final victory took place, Erlein di Senzio steps forth to change the course of history and ensure that their common vision of a free peninsula will be protected, even if the man it needs protection form is the very man whose vision it is.
Meanwhile, in the sea below, Dianora begins what she thinks is her final descent into the depths, but fate has something else in store for her - the Palm, and the legacy of the man she loved and hated in equal measure, need her still.
