He didn't know that if an Omega spent their first true, unmedicated heat in the presence of an Alpha who protected them, the brain didn't care about "hooking up" or "sexual gratification." The brain cared about safety. The brain cared about the one who proved, through the fire of biological imperative, that they would not hurt you, would not use you, would not abandon you to the wolves.

    Or: after years of avoiding heats, his suppressants fail and Shane falls into early heat in the middle of hockey camp. Ilya finds him and takes care of him, while being terrified.
