As mesmerized as he was, he knew it wasn’t right. People weren’t meant to have moss grow on their shoulders, or ivy crawl up their forearms, or flowers and mushrooms and leaves grow in their hair. And so he watched them grow, feeling a mix between disgusted and amazed—sublime.

or, tommy isn’t really sick, but he’s developed a bit of a ‘problem’ after his revival, and he assumes it must be some sort of illness. he tries his best to hide the plants that now grow from his body, but he can’t hide them from everyone.
