Summary
Ravenpaw shifts on the hard stone. The Mothermouth is familiar, but he worries it will spit him back out into the rainy night. At least Barley would be there with him.
Set near the end of Ravenpaw's Path: Shattered Peace. Ravenpaw and Barley shelter in Mothermouth after having to leave the barn. Ravenpaw can't sleep.
Just a short thing about belonging and worrying.

I first read this around the time it was published, and I have often thought of it since as an example of a great fanfiction. Reading it again today, it's as good as I remember, if not better. I'm grateful that I remembered enough about it to find it again.
I think that this fanfiction has had more emotional impact on me than any other. I can't say it made me cry, but it has stuck with me over the years. When I first read it, I was thoroughly closeted. The people who guessed the truth were not kind about it. I was terrified, and I doubted that there was any point in telling anyone, to putting myself through that stress.
In this story, coming out isn't a fairytale. It's scary. It's imperfect. People react poorly. The universe is bleak (as is the nature of Red Dwarf's setting). But still, it is worth it. You will find relief and acceptance and happiness.

I really enjoyed the character writing in this fanfic. Great contrast between the leads and between the time periods
