Dani didn't have to look to know who it was. She'd felt those eyes on her since the moment they lined up- piercing, assessing, like a predator sizing up prey. Jamie Taylor. Chelsea's veteran defender. Two-time FIFA Best Women's Player. And, if the rumours were to be believed, the most insufferable trash-talker in the league.
They'd last met on the pitch in the Olympics final, were Dani had buried the winning goal in extra time. Jamie hadn't forgotten. Neither had Dani.
A low, rough voice cut through the hum of the tunnel, "Welcome to London, Clayton."

When she turns around, about to find her way to any open table to sit down and eat in peace, she freezes. Across the dining room, an unfamiliar woman stands, hanging back slightly from the crowd. She’s not tall—probably Jamie’s height or a fraction shorter—but she has a presence nonetheless. She chats with Owen, her head tipping back slightly as she laughs at something—probably one of his stupid puns, Jamie thinks—showing off the jut of her jaw. Jamie swallows—hard. So this was Owen’s new sommelier. Rebecca’s replacement.
