    Summary

He drives to the airport with an unshakeable urge to pull over and turn around. He smokes four cigarettes in a row before he boards the plane, then chews an entire pack of gum on the flight to try and cover the worst of the smell.

He exits the airport half-hoping that Shane has chickened out of the whole thing. Then he spots him, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel in the most boring suburban dad car Ilya has ever had the misfortune of laying his eyes on, and he’s so happy to see him that his legs feel unsteady beneath his weight.

Or, the cottage, Ilya's version: an extended ep 6 featuring my take on what happened in the gaps we didn't see.

    Summary

“Hey, Hollander, did you see the news about Rozanov?”

Shane’s head snaps up and he almost gives himself whiplash. It’s deja vu, and it throws him back to that moment last season when Ilya’s father passed and he went MIA. His teammates had speculated, but Shane had known the truth – Ilya’s father had passed and he’d flown back to Russia to take care of family matters.

“No?” He states simply, because he doesn’t trust his tongue to not betray him. What could Ilya possibly have done that would get him on the news?

A phone is passed over, and Shane squints against the light and the tiny font of the news article. In big, bold letters the title reads ‘HOCKEY STAR ILYA ROZANOV SEVERELY INJURED IN CAR CRASH.’ It’s accompanied by a generic picture from the Boston news channel, but Shane doesn’t scroll down any further. He can’t. He doesn’t think his brain is capable of any thoughts currently. The phone drops out of his shaking hand and he realizes belatedly that tears are blurring his vision.

    “I gotta go.”

    Summary

Shane Hollander is surrounded by a small group of men wearing his jersey with his name on their backs, and Ilya Rozanov is definitely not jealous.

He’s not jealous because the men are wearing Shane’s name and number, but more so his not jealousy is based upon the fact that these men are blatantly, obviously flirting with his husband. Right in front of him. Shane is even wearing his wedding band – he’d put it back on after the game tonight. Did they have no couth?

OR, Ilya is jealous of men wearing Shane's jersey at the bar.

    Summary

    “Which one is yours?”

Shane scans the ice for his daughter’s jersey number. Ilya had been really smug about it when they brought it home. She has your last name, Hollander, he’d said, let her have my number if she wants. Is better, anyway.

“That one,” he says, pointing at the clump of white jerseys. “Number 81. Mila.”

“Oh you’re Mila’s dad!” The woman looks delighted. “I’m Maddie’s mom. Jane.”

She holds her hand out, and Shane has to bite back a grin. He takes her hand.

“Shane,” he says, shaking it. “Nice to meet you.”

    Summary

“Alright, hold onto your underpants. Vacuuming is not hard work.” Ilya gestured widely in exasperation, communicating that wasn’t what he meant. “I’m just showing off our domestic bliss,” Shane responded.

Ilya smiled, realizing that Shane shared a moment online. Shane walked over to him and Ilya wrapped him in a hug.

Then, “At least, that’s what Troy said when he noticed how little noise you were making.”
