Summary
Seventeen years ago, Willow Jean “Billie” Palmer took a job at famous toy company Playtime Co., as a caretaker for the children in their onsite orphanage. A lifelong lover of children who had been babysitting for years, she quickly formed bonds with all of the children in her care, coming to view them almost as her own.
Ten years ago, on the one day Billie had taken off from work, almost ever, everyone in the Playtime factory went missing. Including Billie’s children. She never found out what had happened to them.
Now, after receiving a mysterious package, Billie finds herself back at Playtime for the first time in a decade, finally with a chance to find answers as to what happened to her children. And she is determined to get them, and to do something with what she finds… no matter what horrors she has to face to do it.

Summary
After fleeing from an abusive relationship of five years, Fern Alvarez enters the small town of Thorn Creek, Massachusetts, with nothing more than two suitcases, an old blue car they were gifted by their parents, and just enough money for the first month’s rent for a small cottage just outside of the town proper. Although still scarred and deeply anxious from everything they endured while dating their ex-girlfriend, Fern wants nothing more than to make a fresh start in Thorn Creek, to do the job they’ve secured at the local bakery and remain unobtrusive and unconnected enough that the woman they’ve fled will never find them again.
But this proves to be fairly impossible when they find themselves living next to (and, eventually, falling in love with) a cottage full of killers…

serendipity, as per the dictionary definition, is the occurrence of valuable, important or fortunate discoveries. a happy accident, a lucky coincidence, it all falls under the same umbrella. in tulsa oklahoma, it's hard to feel serendipitous when you’re born on the ‘wrong’ side of town, darry curtis could tell you that much. he’s had his fair share of a bad hand dealt, with far too much on his plate for someone his age. but when a kind older lady needs help with her roofing, leaving him under the watchful eye of her niece, maybe darry can finally witness his own version of serendipity.
