Mizuki Akiyama didn’t think he actually meant it. That was the worst part. Rui Kamishiro always smiled when he was hurting. That stupid, amused little smile that made everything sound like a joke, even when it clearly wasn’t. So when he leaned against the rooftop railing and said,
“Oh? Want to jump? I could help you, if you’d like."
Mizuki rolled her eyes immediately.
“Shut up, you.”
“My bad.” Rui laughed softly. “Sorry, Mizuki.”
“…I would, though. If I could.”
Mizuki thought he was mocking her. Thought he was just being theatrical again, poking fun at how dramatic she sounded half of the time when talking about wanting to disappear.
Because surely Rui couldn’t have meant it. He had dreams. Shows he wanted to direct. Stories he talked about endlessly. That girl he wanted to reunite with one day.
“…It’d be a pretty ending, wouldn’t it?” he murmured.
And just like that, he changed the subject, something Mizuki grew to tolerate if it was one thing she disliked about him.
And that was just 24 hours ago. Now, 24 hours later, he was dead. And all Mizuki could think about was that stupid, stupid smile...
