As long as she’s in the detention suite with him, the mood is contained. This budding thing that he feels, ready to bloom and flourish and thrive between them, to drive them both into a new chapter of their lives, is still present. But if she leaves, if he can’t see her and watch her process these new changes, ready with the reassurance he knows she will need, he has no way to keep them on the right path. In two weeks, she could come back, determined to recreate their professional relationship. He can’t have that. He’s waited so long. The yearning is eating him from the inside, an insidious, hungry little thing that is calling now, now, do it now.
And Patrick Jane hasn’t gotten to where he is in life by not listening to the dark, covetous parts of his soul.

When she looks at him, she’s brought back to that moment years ago when she told him that at the right time he’d choose life. She’s seen it in his gaze back then, this trace of hope, a need to live and breathe again without this weight on his chest.
She sees it again, now, the clarity in his gaze, no hidden tricks, no lies, just pure honesty. There is a slight smile on his face which she traces with her fingertip, his delicate wrinkles disappearing under her touch. His pupils dilate, darkness eating the colour almost completely. And it hits her with the same burning magnitude that in this moment he chooses something again.
He chooses her.
And this is all she needs.

How would that impact their partnership and how they move forward both as individuals and with each other? Alternative universe from 2x11 but I retain the right to pull in elements from later episodes as I choose. Should expect spoilers through the end of the RJ arc. Partially alternative RJ arc with a few darker scenes. I can’t promise anything but a happily ever after. Expect angst. And, as the rating suggests, there are a few mature/explicit scenes in this story.
