Brynden Rivers closed his eye for the last time in a frozen cave beyond the Wall, his duty finally complete. The Long Night was ended. The price had been paid. He expected nothing from death but silence.
Instead, he woke young again. Whole. Two eyes, two hands, a body that hadn't yet learned to fail him. It was 196 AC, the morning after the Redgrass Field, and Daemon Blackfyre's corpse was still warm.
He remembered everything. The Blackfyre Rebellions, all five of them. The Great Spring Sickness. Summerhall. The Mad King. The realm tearing itself apart while he watched from his weirwood throne, unable to intervene. Two centuries of failure dressed up as patience.
This time, he refused to simply watch.
But Bloodraven was never a builder. He was a schemer, a killer, a monster who justified every atrocity with the greater good. If he wanted to save Westeros, he would have to become something he had never been.
He would have to become better.
