Push and pull, Xingchen learns, does not mean touch. In fact, more often than not, Xingchen finds himself pulled along without so much as a glancing brush of fingers. Song Lan could wrap his hands around Xingchen and tug as hard as he wanted, and Xingchen would not necessarily budge. But when Song Lan takes a step down the road-- fuchen tucked neatly in the crook of his arm, one hand firmly behind his back, chin tilted confidently-- Xingchen will always take a step to follow. Song Lan needs not even to think of touching to pull Xingchen along with him.

Summary
He swallows, harshly, around the lack of a tongue in his mouth. This is not a new injury either. He was—he was getting used to not having a tongue or eyes. He'd learnt spellings to work with the disabilities, and he'd been fine.
And now he has Xiao Xingchen's eyes.
He almost cries, but that seems a poor use of these eyes he's been given. He does not know why, or how, but until he finds Xiao Xingchen to demand answers he will take care of the things he has been given.
There's a knock on the door. "The breakfast you ordered, sirs!" a voice calls, and Song Zichen nods. This means Xiao Xingchen is close. He cannot have gone far. He opens the door and gets handed breakfast—chicken congee and coffee with a shot of spiritual energy, just how he likes it—and then thumbs to messages on his phone.
And then stares.
Xiao Xingchen's number is gone from his contacts. He tries WeChat and Weibo, but he's gone from there too.
Song Zichen eats his congee and tries to breathe.
Xiao Xingchen will have his reasons. Song Zichen will find him and learn them. And if Xiao Xingchen never wishes to see him again, then Song Zichen will leave.

Summary
When the Sun starts to set, they climb up the slight hill on the side of the road to watch the colours fill the sky. Deep ruby and fire-bright orange spill over the horizon line and bleed across the pastel yellow and fading blue. It makes Song Lan feel comfortingly small.
“Thank you,” Xingchen says quietly. “For coming with me.”
The things we do for love, Song Lan wants to say in return, the lingering music of the clouds swirling in his mind before returning to a place beyond his reach. Instead, his reaches across and touches Xingchen’s sleeve gently, and that’s enough.
