  1. Summary

XFVCU, which stood for X Files: VCU (Violent Crimes Unit), was a virtual series that Deslea coordinated in 2003, picking up the story eighteen months after The Truth. A lot has happened - the planned colonisation has been exposed, the alien race appears to have withdrawn, and the entire period of the X Files history from 1990-2003 has been exposed as the surface layer of a deep cover operation to fight the conspiracy. The citizenry are reeling from the news, and hybrids and test subjects are objects of fear, curiosity, and legislative debate. Paranormal cases are on the rise while the conspiracy unravels.

Now, the team - including deep cover agents like Krycek - are left to pick up the pieces. Their work has legitimacy, but it also has the spotlight. They're still players in a game, but whose game is no longer clear. The compromises of the war have taken their toll, too. Just because people share a side, doesn't mean they agree.

The series ended after seven episodes due to a death in the family. However, each episode is a self-contained casefile that can be read on its own.

    Summary

Perched on the highest point of her boat’s structures, Stella still has to crane her neck to stare up and up into the dark sky, at the irrevocable shape of her Atul's face carved into the stars, and understand.

Her voice is choked when she says, shattered, "Oh." Her heart lost in an overwhelming tide of too many emotions to name, whatever gleaming hope she had of seeing him again extinguished by a sea of sudden and all encompassing grief. "Hello, uncle."

    ***

After Atul disappears, Stella visits the Everdoor's waters in an attempt to find him. And she does.

Just not in the way she wanted.

    Summary

Her routine is settled soon enough. She wakes with the sun and stretches, breathing in the salty, fresh air. She nuzzles Daffodil and then she rushes through the boat, hugging everybody. All the hugs she had left to give, all the hugs she had hoarded because they were gone.

    Summary

Stella allowed it to happen fourteen times. Rowed her tender to the closing moments and hugged them farewell. The hugs were always the worst part, the last possible moment she’d ever get.

She wanted to dig in, hold strong — never relinquish them. They can turn around, back the way they came, and stride onto the boat together. Fingers interlocked.

Only one spirit steps off of the ferry again, she knew.

    Summary

She went alone, when the time came.

Red seas stretching miles before her; she knew the ride well. Her aged, creaky vessel remembered the journey — sailed gracefully between the smokey veil. She’d been here countless times before, leading (nearly) every single person she’d ever loved before their fate.

Perhaps, even, the fate came before them.
