    Excerpt Chapter 17:
    The room was quiet, the whirr of the AC humming in the background, the laptop fans working. Lulled into a sense of tranquility, he listened for the signs of Diao calming. His heart slowed, his breaths easing and the tension seeping from his muscles, the strain draining. In the dreamy quiet, he turned his head, kept murmuring assurances against his hair. Kon Diao stilled, then tilted slightly, the line of his neck inviting and open. Mesmerized, Yi held him closer, lips moving from his hair to his temple, the words fading in his throat. Kon Diao’s hold on his shirt loosened, fingers splaying to move tentatively over the expanse of back. Through the fabric, his touch was warm, simultaneously sure and uncertain. Leaning back further, more of the delicate line of his neck on display, nuzzling into the crook of Yi’s shoulder, he heard Diao’s breath hitch, felt the shuddering heat of the expelled breath on a sigh against his throat.
