Summary
Nico di Angelo is a lost child. His soul is astray even in it’s mortal reflection of a body.
When there’s no one else around, Nico does not have to be seen—therefore he does not have to exist. His loneliness grants him the mercy of being free from the burden of being perceived. He does not have to feel the strict, smothering borders that are the images of him in other people’s minds. He does not have to choke on the invisible, intangible pressure that rises up from the ground beneath his feet and covers his body and mind as a whole. He can not be revolted by being acknowledged if there is no one there to see and notice and know him.

"Calling Hikaru selfish was an easy way out. That way, Yoshiki could drown everything else that pawed at the inside of his chest within his anger and not have to think about his repentance nor his shame. That way, he wouldn’t have to face anything at all. He’d tried choosing that path so many times before— the one where he could run away without having to look back at the monster looming over his shoulder, always following him around wherever he went. He’d tried ignoring it countless times before but the shadow it casted over his life only became more impossible to overlook as years passed. He couldn’t outrun the length of it if he tried. He was convinced that he was stuck with it and he forever would be. The weight would strain his shoulders until the day he sank, sank, sank into the ground and slipped underneath it. Maybe the maggots would finally eat the misery out of him then."

Summary
Sigma doesn’t exactly like Dazai, but they do begrudgingly respect him and what he’s doing for the Detective Agency. In order to meet his stakes, Sigma responds in kind, even if it means throwing their life on the line. They were supposed to die much earlier, anyway.
But they don't die. In fact, they wake up right when Dostoevsky smashes into the prison. It seems Dazai really will make good on his promise to get them out of Meursault alive, and he might even give them more than that.
He might just give them a home.
or, alternatively: an au where sigma wakes up in time to warn the agency about dostoevsky's plan (and the road to acceptance and healing that follows)
