Summary
The next thing that happens, though, Natsu catches wind of before his friends do. A man who looks to be in his forties—standing out because he’s dressed a lot more humbly than the rest of his counterparts—glances at Lucy as she appears in his periphery and then his eyes go wide and delighted. He takes her by the shoulders before she can pass him by, and Natsu is ready to charge straight at him, the rest of the guests be damned—before he registers that he has a large, friendly smile on his face and he immediately removes his hands from Lucy once he has her attention and greets her. His voice is loud enough to garner the attention of the rest of the partygoers and they all go quiet, listening in.
“Layla? It is you, isn’t? My god, you haven’t aged a day!”
Lucy’s entire body goes rigid.
Natsu immediately wants to burn this entire godforsaken place to the ground.

“I didn’t think Sorcerer Weekly would stoop to printing outright lies,” Gray can’t help but interject, grimacing when this turns everyone’s attention on him. “I mean, really? Natsu and Lucy as a couple? I’ve heard a lot of insane rumors about Lucy over the years, but this might be the craziest.”
There’s a beat of silence, and then Gray begins to hear murmurs of people agreeing, going, well, yeah, I didn’t think Natsu of all people—
And then unexpectedly, Natsu pipes up.

"So,” Buck begins, and Eddie wrenches his gaze away rapidly, wondering what the fuck is wrong with him tonight. “Would you be able to have casual sex with someone you trusted?”
“Huh?” Eddie looks at Buck blankly. His brain feels oddly fuzzy, although he’s barely finished his first beer of the night. Buck is looking at him strangely—his blue eyes seeming darker than usual, his gaze intense and piercing. For some reason, Eddie can feel his stomach tying itself into knots. “What? I mean…yeah? I suppose so, but where would I find someone like that?”
“Right here,” Buck says easily, making Eddie sputter. “You could sleep with me.”

Two: It has been March 22nd for 3 days now.
Three: Buck is trapped in some kind of time loop that is forcing him to relive this day.
Four: Eddie is, apparently, in love with him.

Five: Buck doesn’t feel the same way.

Bobby shrugs. “Yes. Look, you made a mistake before. It doesn’t mean you’re gonna make the same mistake again, especially considering you’re actually in a good place now. And it’s better to try and allow yourself to mess up than not try at all because you’re scared of failing.”
“Buck thinks I’m making a mistake,” Eddie says quietly before he can help himself.
Bobby eyes him keenly. “Is that what he said?” He asks, after a pause.

Something about the silence is tranquil, calming, and peaceful. It makes Buck want to lay himself bare in front of the one person who knows him inside and out.
Maybe that’s why it spills out of him tonight. After years of not addressing it, letting it sit between them, knowing but not speaking of it. Maybe the silence is what makes Buck honest. Things unsaid spilling over him like the water in the plate he’s rinsing.
