Summary
Winters in Putmount are never easy. Extreme temperatures cause the already dull town to turn into something ghostly and lifeless. The forests surrounding the town, once so vibrant, freeze into a still picture of piercing white. Putmount’s population shifts from indifferent to downright cruel. Families keep to themselves, leaving any other relationships to thaw out come spring.
Despite it all, my family found a way to make the best of it: hide-and-seek during power outages, hot chocolate during snowstorms, and most importantly, a warm bed to crawl into at the end of a gruelling winter day in Putmount.So, why am I so cold? This bed is hard, and the blanket feels too scratchy. The familiar comforts of winter nights are gone. I shift uncomfortably under the covers, my body heavier than usual. My eyes won’t open. I’m too tired to open them. Sleep threatens to take over again. But then I hear it. A distant crash, followed by an almost inhuman scream.
