She’s tiny and slim in a way Evie can never achieve. They toss her in the air with ease, with abandon, there’s no worry for the fall. If Audrey were to crash, Evie is certain that fairy dust would catch her. A fairy blessing. Sometimes, Evie wonders what would’ve been if Mal had been given the same grace.

Jay never lets any of them do guard duty alone, it’s a miracle he manages to get any amount of sleep at all. She glances over at their hideout’s ratty cot. Evie and Carlos are both asleep, cuddled up close beneath a moth-eaten blanket.
Their hideout is untouched by the rest of the Isle. Within these walls, they’re free.

As far as he could tell the cuffs were genuine leather, unscuffed and still supple. He remembers presenting them to his father. How Jafar didn’t take them away, but instead grabbed Jay’s arms and tightened the leather cuffs around his wrists. It felt like winning.

Mal orders. Mal is a punch first, ask questions never kind of girl and Jay loves her for it. “I never realized how much the barrier was hiding.”
Jay finds Mal lying on the roof of the boy’s dormitory. It’s located closer to the tourney field and faces away from the ocean, away from the rest of Auradon and the view of the Isle. A little less out in the open, a little more like home.
