Mizu spares the life of Abijah Fowler in exchange for his help in finding the last of the two White men she had sworn herself to kill. Instead, she finds herself in the middle of 17th century London where she is meant to play the part of Abijah Fowler's foreign son - meanwhile, in Japan, Taigen struggles with his own purpose as he suffers through his own grief at the loss of his previous life and the loss of future as a kagema.
However, the two's tides eventually cross once again when Taigen is sold to an English man... now, the two must deal with their own personal feelings disguised as husband and wife as they attempt to sneak under the stealthy eyes of Skeffington - the third target on Mizu's list.
