He can’t hold back the eyeroll this time. “It’s called an accident, Sweetheart. ‘Sides, I didn’t know. Ain’t like I can see through walls. So, how was I supposed to—?”
“By knocking.”
He huffs. “Well, ‘scuse me for not givin’ ya the luxury of a private room.”
She takes a deep breath. “You’re right. I’m sorry. This isn’t your fault. What has happened, happened.” She gets to her feet. “Can we drop it now?”
He hums. “Depends.”
“On?”
He tilts his head, debating if he should go through with this. “Who’s Cooper?” If he’s lucky, the risk will be worth the reward.

You freed me before sending me inside to my alleged doom.” Lucy shrugs her shoulders. “Why?” Now he’s scowling at her. She presses her lips together, holding back a grin. “Well?”
