“Oh god, you’re shaking.”
“Yup. Yeah.” Ed was trembling head to foot. It was a lot of information to process, okay? And it wasn’t just a lot of information. It was potentially life changing information. Stuff that he had long since accepted he would never hear. And it sucked, but he was acclimated to that suckiness. And now here was Stede, throwing him either a lifeline or a fatal blow. He wasn’t sure which one yet.
“Why are you shaking, Ed?”
“Because I’ve been in love with you basically since we met, Stede. And you just said you were attracted to my sweat. I’m having a bit of a moment over here.”

It is on theme that his ruts are a force to be reckoned with, that's why nobody has been allowed near him during such a time when his instincts are high and his inhibitions are low-- at that point, you'd stand better chances fighting a pack of wolves butt naked, really.
Who better to face such a challenge than the determined and brave Gentleman Pyrate?
Turns out nobody seen Edward rutting for good reason, but its not because he's dangerous. 'Pathetic' is perhaps a better word for it.

Summary
“Make love to me, Ed.”
The words lodge themselves in Ed’s belly, twanging like a just-thrown knife. No one’s ever asked him to do that before. Indeed, nothing in all his vast amounts of prior sexual experience could have possibly been termed “making love”. He panics.
“I… don’t know how,” he tells Stede helplessly, his eyes pleading for Stede to understand.
Stede cups the side of his face with a hand, impossibly kind and firm. “Yes, you do,” he tells Ed. “I know you do. Make love to me, Edward Teach.”
He declares this the way he might recite the measurements of The Revenge or list their last ports of call. Not even confidently, but as facts no one would even think to dispute. Ed’s heart leaps into his throat, threatening to smother him. “How do you know?” he chokes out.
