That was why it hurt the way it did when the truth finally arrived.
“I didn’t tell you yet,” Jay was saying, his tone casual, almost careful. “But I’m seeing someone.”
For the first time, Jungwon had to face the fact that some goals were never meant to be reached.

Jungwon made a noise halfway between a groan and a sigh. “Can we just enjoy the fact that no one’s talking at us? That we’re not being forced to run, or organize something, or listen to Sunghoon try and rhyme ‘arse’ with ‘class’ again?”
“Oi, don’t jinx it,” Jake warned lazily.
And of course, as if summoned by the gods of mischief and juvenile attention spans.
“ALRIGHT, WHO LET THE HEADBOY OUT IN PUBLIC WITHOUT SUPERVISION?”
Jungwon didn’t even have to look. The voice was already enough to spike his blood pressure.

Jay shook his head, biting back a grin as he turned to grab Jungwon’s takeout box. “Here’s your reward, Superhero.”
“Actually, I’ve been thinking,” Jungwon said, leaning forward again, now with a glint of mischief in his eye. “Maybe you’re my reward.”
Jay blinked, then tilted his head. “Your what?”
“My post-saving-the-day reward,” he said, keeping his eyes locked on Jay. “You know, like how some people go to the gym and then get a protein shake? I get a Jay.”
Jay looked at him like he was malfunctioning. “You get a what?”
Jungwon grinned. “You. Here. Behind the counter. Looking like that. It’s the highlight of my week.”
