"Are you frightened of me?" Gilbert whispered. It was only then that Anne realised her eyes were shut. "Are you?" he asked again.
Anne bit her lower lip. "A little," she said. "You think I'm bad for wanting you?" she asked him, feeling suddenly, incredibly vulnerable. She had always prided herself on being in control. Always. He didn't answer. He took one of her hands in his and brought it to his lips.
