A vice-like panic seizes him, propelling him into a frantic sprint down the hallway, each step reverberating against the metallic grating. Abandoning all sense of decorum, he crashes through Rose’s door, neglecting the courtesy of a knock. "Ro-" he begins, but her name dies on his lips as his brain struggles to process what his eyes are seeing.
Despite the dim illumination of a solitary flickering candle, his eyes are immediately drawn to her trembling figure sprawled on the bed. Fear grips icily at both hearts, the worry of a stress-induced seizure at the front of his mind. Yet, as he focuses his gaze, her hand's deliberate and rhythmic movement becomes unmistakable.
(In other words, a fic where the Doctor walks in on Rose wanking and sexy shenanigans ensue.)

The story of the slumbering Sun Summoner is known by all. That hundreds of years before the creation of the Fold, there had been a Grisha with the power of the Sun. The Black Heretic’s opposite in so many ways, brightness in virtue, in personality, in ability and divinity. Alina, the stories always called her, because he would not let any other bastardizations of her name stand. The fables always exclaimed her as beautiful, with shocking white hair, some correctly describing her as half-Shu, others maligning her as a woman as fair as a Fjerda Princess. But they all agreed she lived the life of an orphan until her powers were discovered. Discovered, and here, most stories got it wrong — coveted and destroyed by a Shadow Summoner. They fell in love, the stories went, but he tricked her; this devilish man who locked the Sun Summoner in a tower in exchange for the safety of all Ravkans.
It infuriates him that he is the villain of her story as he plays the villain to everyone else.
No matter, though. He's determined to find her.

Luda watches as her life with Aleksander falls apart right in front of her eyes in vivid technicolor. A head-on collision. Incapable of stopping it or looking away.
Sees it happen with eyes wide open in morbid fascination. Paralyzed into inaction because no, this was never supposed to happen to me.
Yet, it did. It does.
No amount of silent pleading changes the course of her life or reverses time in order to stop the beginning of their end.
Her mental cries fall on deaf, indifferent ears.
All she can do is stand by and watch as her life and relationship are reduced to rubble so fine it might as well be dust in the wind for how insubstantial it all becomes. Can only stand by, hopeless and mute, in the wake of a calamity. Physically unscathed but mortally wounded nonetheless.
Her heart is a dark, bloody smear of hopes and dreams and unrealized potential at her feet.
Can only stare at it and weep, chest torn open and cries crowding her glued-shut mouth.
It was never supposed to be like this.
