Summary
Retainers are the least-appreciated NPCs in FFXIV. We give them form, personalities, even their very identities. They bring us all sorts of things and support our rock'n'roll lifestyles by being our agents in the marketplace, but we usually just grumble when they bring us back junk (like single elemental crystals!) They deserve better, starting with recognition for all of their hard work!
This is a collection of stories about life as a retainer in Eorzea. I can't promise anything like regular updates, but I have a lot of ideas brewing and these fools are living rent-free in my head right now.

Yeul is pretty sure that knowing the raid mechanics is not going to get her very far in Eorzea. There's no macros to real life.
Here's to hoping that Hydaelyn didn't choose the wrong Warrior of Darkness.

Summary
Estinien keeps the world at a distance for a reason, and the world seems happy to comply. But then he encounters the Warrior of Light and discovers in her someone who he is ready to let under - and on - his skin. He wants to protect her and the friendship into which they naturally fall. Even if everyone around thinks he must needs be blind not to see what they truly are to each other, he refuses to believe someone as wonderful as her could consider him anything more than a friend (with benefits).

Summary
When Y'shtola goes to G'raha to inquire about his process in bringing them all to the First, she discovers a vast untapped well of information for her research. She also discovers that he's suffering from a century of touch hunger, and she cannot bear to leave a comrade in pain. However, there's a good reason Seeker women don't give most Tia the time of day. Y'shtola swore long ago that she would never allow a male to lay claim to her, and she's no intention of changing her tune now. But G'raha is the one Tia who might have the control not to try to claim her during sex - and she has to admit to curiosity about what it would be like with a Miqo'te male.
G'raha knows he's going to break his heart over Y'shtola, but it might just be worth it for the chance to ease his touch-starvation. If he can breathe and think clearly, he'll have a better chance of finding a true partner in the future when she leaves. The problem is, she's everything he ever wanted in a mate, and she's definitely one of a kind. How can anyone else ever measure up? Some broken hearts never heal, and he's starting to think this might be one of them.

“Do you die with regrets, most lost of Travelers?”
He does not have the luxury of pondering it: as she speaks, he remembers, and it's the last memory the one that breaks him. The one that has him laughing, falling to his knees. Curling his tail around his leg as his laughter devolves into the kind of cackling that would better fit an Overlord.
“Then die, Slayer of the Chosen.”
All goes black once again, and the strength of the Light is overwhelming.
“Live, as another should have.”
His very soul feels on fire.
“Know, that you are my Child once more.”

Summary
Estinien has spent years struggling to find the key to being 'normal', continually failing to understand why everyone else places such emphasis on sex. His lack of desire for full intimacy doesn't mean he has no wish for touch or affection, but his inability to go farther has already cost him one relationship with a man he loved with all his heart. He has no reason to believe a second attempt will end any differently, but he doesn't want to spend his life alone.
G'raha certainly can't empathize with Estinien's plight, but he does understand what it's like to be alone and untouched for far too long. If they can offer each other a solution for their mutual touch-starvation, he sees no reason not to indulge themselves. It doesn't take much of soaking in Estinien's affection before he has to admit that this is no longer a merely friendly exchange. He's willing to make sacrifices and compromises, if it means they can be together.
The biggest obstacle they face might not be Estinien's refusal to engage in sex, but rather his refusal to believe in the possibility that they can last.
