“Coming!” Al-Haitham calls, navigating the maze of packing peanuts and crates. He undoes the latch on the door and lets it swing open, fully expecting to see the bearded face of his landlord only to be met with the vermillion-eyed face of somebody he had given up hope on seeing for the rest of his life.
There’s a long moment of silence. The aching swell of Vivaldi in the background and the rushing in his ears like the ocean waves.
“...Kaveh?”
Kaveh, globally-renowned musician, disappears off the face of Teyvat. Five years later, he shows up outside of Al-Haitham's door with no explanation but to ask for a bed to sleep in.
It's fine. They only have thirteen years of history, after all.

Summary
After losing his father, Miles Edgeworth’s life drastically changed all too quickly before he could process it. It was suddenly a new country, new home, new life in the von Karma household. Always striving for perfection to be the model disciple of Manfred von Karma. At times, it was suffocating, to keep up with his studies, all while the nightmares and his grief about his father’s death continue to plague him every day. But even on the darkest days, he could always rely on his sister Franziska, even when he felt like he was all alone with nothing but his own thoughts. However, eventually, as all things in life, their close sibling relationship started fading away, too. But perhaps, there is hope for Miles to become a worthy brother, once again, one whom his sister can rely on, just as he relied on her in their childhood…
Or: Miles and Franziska’s lives together as adopted siblings, helping each other through Manfred’s abusiveness, drifting apart as they get older, until they finally get reunited again and mend their bond.

"Gregory Edgeworth speaking,” he answers tiredly, rubbing sleep out of his eyes.
“Hello, yes,” a woman’s voice answers. He knows that voice. “This is the Los Angeles police.” Ah. “We’re calling about a Franziska von Karma?”
News already, that must be good. “Yes? Have you contacted her sister yet?”
“Ah, well, no, sir.” What? No? “We...have a bit of a problem.”
Gregory was suddenly completely awake. “A problem?”
“Yes. You see, she refuses to go with any of our social workers to a foster placement. We’ve explained to her that it’s only temporary, but she starts screaming every time we try to make her leave. She keeps asking for you.”
State vs. Masters ends with Manfred von Karma’s arrest. Franziska von Karma is left alone in the courtroom. Gregory Edgeworth just won’t stand for this.

He knows this pain, of course he does. Being on the other side of it is something else, though, knowing the terror of it himself by no means makes him an expert. The fever has undoubtedly exacerbated the delusion of it, as well, a factor that may complicate things. It’s different, though—she wasn’t scared like this when it was happening, not in any way that showed on her face. Franziska was strong that muggy spring day as she was anywhere else, chin pointed high and mouth set firm as she poured hot blood all over his car upholstery.
Miles forgot, sometimes, how much of Franziska was a mask.

Summary
The issue being, with anger, that it burns out. When the knock at her door finally comes, hours later, Franziska is sitting quietly at her kitchen counter, shoulders hunched, gripping her elbows with her arms crossed in front of her. She’s kicking one foot against the cabinet below her, lightly. She’s done everything she can, already, she’s slammed the doors and thrown her bag into the front closet, hard, and kicked her shoes off, and stood under boiling water in the shower, and sat shaking on the couch, nearly physically holding herself together lest she do something worse, she has done the angry sobbing and held up one half of an imaginary argument while pacing her kitchen island in circles, she’s done all of it. So now she’s sitting at her kitchen counter, exhaustion a weight hung in her ribcage, watching the oven clock click closer to the trial she has in the morning.
And then the knock at the door.
Or, Miles Edgeworth returns from the dead. Franziska von Karma stands at the bottom of a canyon, and looks up.

Summary
Where Franziska fell into horrible rages, Miles would grow taciturn and recalcitrant, the both of them so very determined to be perfect and—though she would only realize this years in the future—failing horribly at it in every field outside of the courtroom. Her father had tried to stamp these bad habits out of them, to very little avail; perhaps Gregory Edgeworth would have known better success.
Looking back on it, she would feel herself go cold with disgust. Stop trying, she wanted to say, wanted to slap herself across her face. Stop trying to hold it all in place. Do you think it is nice, how everyone is afraid when you step into a room because everything must always be exactly your way? Don't you think it's awful, that you—I—like it that they do?
Or, Franziska von Karma, falling apart.

Summary
As far back as the teenaged Miles Edgeworth can remember, he has never once taken a break. Is it so wrong to want one now, after all the stress he's been put under? Sure, he's a precocious young thing, but every kid's played around with faking sick to get out of something they really don't want to do. Miles' 'don't want to do' just happens to be all of December.
Unfortunately, it works a little too well.

Summary
Franziska considers the utter foolishness of her brother for a moment. She has nothing to bring to court in Germany until the New Year, drunken fools in holding aside. She knows her father’s prosecuting style better than anyone who isn’t the defendant in the case at trial, strange Christmas occurrences or not.
Most importantly: not once in her life has she ever obeyed a direct command from Miles Edgeworth.
She steels herself. She is a von Karma, after all, and she will throw herself under a moving train before she admits defeat. “You foolish fool. I will be in Los Angeles at three.”
or: franziska von karma turns up during turnabout goodbyes, as is her god-given right—just in time to watch her family fall apart.
