    Summary

At university, Euijoo had taken an elective on post-war Japanese architecture almost by chance and entirely because it fit nicely into his schedule. It had been really interesting and challenging and he had retained almost none of it at the time, except for this: the idea that a house, or any other thing, could be entirely pulled apart and divided into its individual parts and be effectively unmade, only to be put back together somewhere else. Was the relocated house the same as the original? Or was it something new?

Nicholas breaks up with Euijoo after almost six years together. Euijoo had tried to make himself into a home, built around and for Nicholas, but now, only the broken pieces of their life together remain, scattered on the ground. And amidst the ruins, there's Fuma.

"Well, you couldn’t script it, could you? Best mates as kids, apparently, and proper rivals now—and the big question, really, is whether they can let it go now that it’s come to it, or if old grudges really do die hard…”

(The soccer/football fic in which the tension is built less from actual rivalry and more from a complicated shared past. And wanting each other's bodies, obviously.)

    Summary

“I have always interpreted my lifelong interest in lists as a similar expression: the relief of asserting some superficial order over the unmanageable. The reduction of the infinite to the singular column, the imposition of linearity.”
    — Melissa Febos, The Dry Season

Yuma watches him now, this stranger in a fading Tokyo University tee shirt who shares his walls and his bathroom.

It’s not that Jo looks uncomfortable. It’s just, he looks alone in a way the others don’t.

And maybe, Yuma thinks, that’s on him to fix.

    "Yuma? You there?"

Yuma snaps out of it. Poor Jo—he'd left him hanging. "Yeah, sorry. He texted me."

    "Nicholas?"

    "Harua."

"Oh." Jo sounds a little confused. "What did he have to say?"

"He's giving me tips on how to seduce his brother," Yuma replies. With new energy, he springs from the mattress and throws his closet doors open, squeezing past his parents’ storage boxes to rummage through the hangers. "I guess I have to sneak a crop top into my outfits this week somehow."

A pause. The scratching of pencil against paper on the other end. "This deal seems odd," is all Jo says, before falling silent again.

(or: yuma, a burnt out college sophomore on summer break, and harua, a wannabe rebel stuck in gap year hell, make a deal with nicholas as the collateral. other things end up on the line, too.)

    Summary

It was irritating, at first. Irritating to love Taki and want him at the same time. It chafed his pride—after all, he could have anyone. Yudai had made sure he became someone who could have anyone, and then he ended up like this: fucking Taki four nights a week, wanting him the other three. Wanting nothing else, no one else.

The lifecycle of an oyster and the pearl it made.
