Jason resists the urge to groan, and bang his head on the table. Of course he’d pick the one weekend Dickbird’s in town. Fuck. Furthermore, the association with the original boy wonder leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Not to mention the fact that Dick probably meant it as some corny, half assed pickup line (that obviously worked.) That’s embarrassing. Fuck. He’ll blame this entire night on the blood loss. And the trauma from dying. That always works.

At first glance, Fushiguro is unseemingly sweet: she's polite, has a gentle touch, and is mindfully withdrawn. Fushiguro doesn't talk over other people, she never mentions her parents, and she's awkwardly nervous at the mention of the Zenin Clan. With time, it becomes evident to her team that her unsettlingly kind demeanour is a result of the family she never talks about.

Summary
You're a lifeguard at the beach, burning in the hot sun as you count the minutes until you can go home. Near the end of your shift, you rush over to help a guy who’s struggling in the water, which won’t be the last time he has some sort of ‘issue’ today. Each time you hurry over, his friend lingers, making easy conversation, as if there’s something more going on. He casually invites you to join them later at his friend’s house. You tell yourself it’s just to be polite, but as the night goes on, you somehow find yourself back on the lifeguard tower, standing close beside him under the stars.
The beach this fic is based on is Newport Beach, CA.
