Where is he? He works through that question first, trying to remember what led him to this alley. He was…gambling...and then he was on a great streak...then he was running out of the building? Now why was he running? He can’t place the reason, after a minute of thinking. He really overdid it with the alcohol, maybe it had to do with that? He hears some commotion on the street and looks over, seeing a group of people pass the alley while laughing. He should get out and at least onto the sidewalk, he acts first before actually thinking it.
