Summary
The centaur followed her around all afternoon. He was rather irritating, Penelope thought, telling her she was cutting the nettles wrong and pointing out clusters of mushrooms she had already seen. He stood awfully close to her, too, his human parts looming overhead and she had to admit she was a little afraid of his hooves – especially because he liked to stamp them when he got excited. They came across a patch of wild strawberries and he danced around with such vigour that Penelope felt sure he would trample her and the berries both.
“Are they ripe?” he asked her, leaning down as far as he was able to watch her pull the little red jewels from their stems.
Penelope popped one in her mouth and her cheeks sucked in at the sudden sharp-sweet burst upon her tongue. “They are delicious,” she said, and then she realised that he was staring at her with a sort of longing on his face and she shyly held her open palm up to him. He took one of the little treats and popped it into his mouth. His eyes fluttered closed and his cheeks pinked as he chewed.
“Delicious,” he agreed.

“I’m sorry,” he tested, pleased when she seemed to deflate a little in relief. “I don’t mean to upset you, Pen. It’s just—well, I feel very…it makes me a little crazy to see you with anybody else.”
To Colin’s astonishment, fear didn’t come flooding back into her eyes at his admission. In fact, her eyes seemed to go a touch hazy, the last of her frown melting away as she looked all over his face, her gaze lingering for a few seconds on his mouth.
“I’ve never made a guy crazy before,” she murmured, still staring at his mouth.
Colin’s belly began fluttering and clenching, a nervous energy suddenly ricocheting all over his insides—she liked the fact she made him crazy. She liked that he was a little surly and snarly and mean. What’s more—she liked that she was the cause of it.
“You make me crazy, Pen,” he whispered, dragging his eyes to her mouth. “Don’t make me hurt anybody else when all I want is you.”
