Remus Lupin isn’t the type to drive under the influence. Yet here he was — in the dead of night, during a storm, on a dark country road — standing over the body of a boy he’s just hit with his truck.When the boy wakes with no memory of who he is, Remus offers to take him in until he recovers.

Remus Lupin attended Hogwarts with James Potter and Lily Evans.
Sirius Black attended Koldovstoretz, alone.
James Potter and Sirius Black were best friends until they were 11, when James would never hear from him again.
Harry Potter is born on a warm day in late July, and a little over a year later, his parents are dead.
Remus Lupin is left with nothing but James' childhood home, and his child.---
Essentially, Sirius flu powders to “the Potters" house and is faced with Harry and Remus instead. Remus offers him hospitality and guidance as he is abandoned from his family and finds out his childhood best friend is dead.
