And even if getting Rhaenyra in as a soloist was a staggering show of nepotism, she was still the best concert pianist on the planet. It was like when Dmitri Junior recorded Shostakovich’s second. You could get mad about it for a bit, but it was ultimately fair game. Alicent had already reached all these conclusions because Viserys had spoken to her weeks ago about programming the Concerto, which only had the unwanted effect of giving her time to turn it over in her brain like a particularly nauseating Rubix cube. Each solution of the puzzle led her to the same conclusion: she would be seeing Rhaenyra imminently, and there wasn’t a damn thing she could do about it.
After ten years apart, Rhaenyra Targaryen re-enters Alicent's life for a set of solo engagements with her orchestra. Things go about as well as expected (not very).

After a nebulous not-quite-friendship at university, Ava disappears unceremoniously from Beatrice's life. Some years later, the two meet again, in Accident & Emergency.

Sue liked to think of herself as someone who wasn’t totally miserable, and found fun in a lot of activities — telling or hearing a good joke, eating a tub of ice cream, watching the first ice hockey game of the season. But joining Emily’s amateur production of As You Like It, due to open in six weeks at the local theatre, was nowhere on her list of fun pastimes.
(In which Sue discovers the joys of iambic pentameter, confronts long-repressed emotional issues, and tries to figure out how to pretend to be in love with your best friend for theatrical purposes without acknowledging that you're actually already in love with your best friend. Not necessarily in that order.)

“I’ve been here all morning,” Sue replied, though she returned Emily’s embrace, squeezing her waist a little.
“Okay, I missed this,” Emily corrected. Even as she said it, she realised that she meant so many things at once: the quiet when it was just the two of them together; the closeness of Sue; the feeling of Sue’s hands around her waist. She had no idea you could miss a person this much when they were near to you all the time.Four times Emily and Sue snuck around; one time they didn't have to.

“I moved back,” Sue said.
“Yeah, I heard about that, actually,” Emily replied. “I love your dog.”
“Thanks,” Sue said. “Are you — okay?”
“Oh, yeah, I’m fine,” Emily told her, though she looked at the same time like she was about two seconds from falling over.
“Are you drunk?”
“Yeah,” Emily said, then, clearly sensing some judgement in Sue’s tone that wasn’t actually there: “What’s it to you? Free country, right?”
“Kind of,” Sue replied, “except you’re on my front lawn, so.”(Sue is perfectly fine being alone and not in a hurry to change that. Emily doesn't get the memo.)

Regina inclines her head slightly. “That’s what I said.”
Emma splutters like an old car unwilling to start. “But - I mean - look, lady, I don’t even have a boyfriend -”
“I can wait,” Regina says lightly. It’s true. She’s waited a long time and a couple of years (or decades, as the case may be; Regina isn’t sure Miss Swan is quite the type to settle down with the first man she sets her eyes on) aren’t going to make a huge amount of difference.

“Hello?” a deep voice echoes through the thick darkness of the sitting room, and she almost sighs to herself in annoyance. Oh, sweet Jesus.
“Who’s there?” the voice questions. Please go away, Katniss retorts silently. Please. So I can give you your darn presents and be on my merry way.
“Dad? Is that you?”
Oh my God, Katniss slumps against the wall in near-defeat. It seems like this human isn’t planning on going away any time soon.
“Of course it’s not,” the voice mumbles to itself in resignation. “I would’ve heard him come down the stairs.”
Great, she thinks to herself. Not enough that I’ve got a human. I’ve got a human who talks to himself.
She can hear heavy footsteps coming into the room she’s in, and, not for the first time that night, Katniss thinks about how much she hates everything.
Especially Christmas.
