She’s earnest, and that’s the first thing Frank likes about her. Telling everyone to call her Mel during introductions, she’s the only one who tacks on something personal after her name and year—'I’m so happy to be here'. Reluctantly, he finds it endearing even knowing that first shift in the pitt is like an exercise in torture.
But that’s the thing about this place: you get a sense of people very quickly. And, somehow, for whatever reason, Frank gets the sense that Dr. King—Mel—is tougher than at first glance.
