    Bookmarker's Notes

“But when you have the thing back you do not once again feel the love. Even with the thing you love most in your hands, you feel the absence. How do I get it back? you say, How do I get back the love?  The thief hands you an armful of tangled yarn. Here, the thief says. It’s up to you. You need to make it out of this. You say, How will I know when I have finished?  The thief says, You won’t.”

i’m not good enough of a writer to express my feelings but this fic and the poem that inspired it fit the epilogue so perfectly. for the reader who thought he had given his companions what they loved, and for the companions who held what he gave and felt the absence of love, and for us, who need to make that love out of the yarn of their story, even if we don’t know when we are finished.
